The hotel has been renovated, so the old reviews don't do it justice. This is a great price for value. Recently renovated rooms, with good service, an elevator, bog rooms, and Western-styled bathroom fittings. I highly recommend staying there, particularly if you need to take the ferry to the airport the next day (50m away).

Getting there
Mookai Hotel is in the Malé area, about 2.1 km in a straight line from Velana International Airport on Hulhulé. Hulhumalé is joined to the airport island by road, and the Sinamalé Bridge links the airport side with Malé, so the transfer is short.
A city stay suits a first or last night around an international flight, or a base for ferries and speedboats out to the nearby local islands of North and South Malé atolls.
The nearest other stays in this guide are Relax Inn (on the same island block), Kam Hotel (on the same island block) and Sunset Queen (on the same island block). On a local island or in the city, stays this close share the same streets, beaches and ferry stops, which makes them easy to compare.

Mookai Hotel averages 3.8 out of 5 across 184 reviews. A selection, quoted as written:
It's all clean and fairly recently decorated. Room and bathroom were small but adequate. Only complaints: lack of plug sockets and in particular none near the bed; shower curtain instead of screen is impractical; although it was nice to have a balcony and view over the road the doors didn't have a great seal so the aircon had no effect on the bed near the door. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful including recommending that we buy water from the shop across the road instead of the hotel and breakfast outside! I was annoyed that we were told on arrival that the pool was closed for refurbishment because we really chose the hotel because of the pool. I was also annoyed that I booked…
Very polite staff but the entire hotel needs a fully renovation.Dirty, old furniture and the room wasn't smell well. No comparison between photos and the reality of the rooms. To be honest we felt in danger during our stay in Male.
