We arrived in Maldives late at night so we decided to stay a night in a not so expensive hotel before we checked in to the over the water room the next 5 days. We paid way less for the Sandgate inn for a night stay so my husband told me not to expect much of the hotel however I was surprised when we entered our room. It was very clean, well decorated and well maintained room. Feels like everything in the room is pretty much new. The staffs were very nice. They offered us free breakfast of which we were not expecting. Definitely exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend.

Getting there
The Sandgate Inn is in the Malé area, about 2.7 km in a straight line from Velana International Airport on Hulhulé. Hulhumalé is joined to the airport island by road, and the Sinamalé Bridge links the airport side with Malé, so the transfer is short.
A city stay suits a first or last night around an international flight, or a base for ferries and speedboats out to the nearby local islands of North and South Malé atolls.
The nearest other stays in this guide are HolidayMakers Inn (on the same island block), Sunny Suites (on the same island block) and Contento Retreat (on the same island block). On a local island or in the city, stays this close share the same streets, beaches and ferry stops, which makes them easy to compare.

The Sandgate Inn averages 4.1 out of 5 across 24 reviews. A selection, quoted as written:
Staff is friendly, rooms were clean but AC is loud and not very cold. Breakfast is below average. Very close to the airport bus stop. Initially rooms were very stuffy and our first allocated room had no hot water which the management knew about. Once we mentioned this to management, we were all allocated a new room. Given that they knew about the issue, it was annoying that they allocated us the first room as we had already unpacked and had to repack due to the room change.
