From the site's Vaavu Atoll guide: Few islands, strong currents on the eastern rim and a night dive known across the country. Vaavu suits divers and travellers who want a quieter atoll. Vaavu is also called Felidhu, and its administrative code letter J (used on island signs and ferry boards) marks it on maps and timetables. It lies south of the North and South Malé atolls, which makes it one of the closer atolls to the airport. The atoll is quiet: a few inhabited islands, a few resort islands and a lot of water. The inhabited islands are Fulidhoo, Felidhoo, Thinadhoo, Keyodhoo and Rakeedhoo. Felidhoo is the administrative centre. Life on these islands follows the usual pattern: guesthouses, mosques, schools, a harbour and a designated bikini beach for visitors. The atoll's shape matters more than its size. The eastern rim is cut by channels where currents run strong, and those channels are why divers come. The western side is shallower and more sheltered.
